The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, under the leadership of Chair Laurie Gutmann, MD, has a rich tradition in academic neurology with a national reputation in neurological education and neuroscience research. For more than 75 years, neurologists have shaped the department as a leader in education, research and clinical care. The department, housed in the state-of-the-art Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center in downtown Indianapolis, has grown to include a faculty consisting of nearly 90 physicians, clinician scientists, and scientists who are internationally and nationally recognized specialists in neurologic health and neuroscience.

Accomplished physician faculty in the Department of Neurology are deeply committed to training medical students, residents and fellows in this complex field of medicine. The residency and fellowship programs provide exceptional training for the nation's future neurologists.

Neurologist leading nationwide registry to evaluate effectiveness of new tool to remove blood clots of stroke patients

A multicenter study led by Kaustubh Limaye, MD, an associate professor of clinical neurology at the IU School of Medicine, found that a novel device used to surgically treat patients with large vessel occlusions — a severe type of ischemic stroke — is a safe and effective way to remove blood clots in the brain.
